What Does it Matter?
Why do paperbacks matter?
Books can be viewed on smartphones, read on computers, or filed away as an ebook on a tablet. All of these are great ways to consume a good book, however, paperbacks are timeless. My personal library can attest, I am a book collector. And I hope I am not the only one to overflow my shelves with paperbacks and squeal upon entering bookstores. In a world where digital consumption of books is an option, I will choose flipping through a real, physical book every time. Real ink on paper. Real typography on turnable pages. Call me old-fashioned, but paperbacks matter!
Why does intentional design matter?
Renowned graphic designer Joe Sparano says that, “Good design is obvious. Great design is transparent.” A well-designed book cover or logo is invisible because it seamlessly conveys the solution without distracting elements. Design with lesser quality is easier to spot because it doesn’t effectively meet the needs of the intended design purpose. Intentional design requires thoughtful brainstorming, creative problem-solving, and skillful practice.
